Buying someone a coffee or holding the door open for the person behind you are examples of one of the simplest ways to increase your happiness: generosity. "One of the quickest and easiest ways to get happier is to be generous," Dan Harris said in a recent episode of his podcast, "Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris." In some ways, that's the least interesting part of it," said Chris Anderson, curator of TED who spoke with Harris for his podcast. The scientific explanation behind that is that "we are wired to be generous," Anderson said. It's really, really true now, more so than it has ever been," Anderson said.

Our paid AI futureToday, we're at the start of a similarly exciting new technology wave with generative AI. Even Google, the master of free online services, is considering paid subscriptions for some of its new AI offerings. So, why will generative AI offerings be paid from the start? One possible answer is that ads may not work as well in this new generative AI future. Charging for new generative AI services is one way to create new earnings.

The letters were sent this month to vote centers or government buildings in six states: Georgia, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington and Kansas. Lane County, Oregon, which received a suspicious letter, will provide naloxone kits and train elections staff on administering it. The incident prompted King County Elections to procure naloxone, though the antidote was not needed then nor when its Renton office received a second fentanyl-laced letter this month. “We felt like it was just a good idea to have on hand for all kinds of scenarios these days,” King County Elections spokeswoman Halei Watkins said. The office received a threatening letter this month containing baking soda and took the occasion to re-emphasize naloxone is available.

Opinion | People Are More Generous Than You May Think

Are human beings fundamentally good or fundamentally bad? Are people mostly generous, or are they mostly selfish? Over the centuries, many of our leading lights have taken the view that people are basically selfish. On average, the participants spent more than $6,400 of it to benefit others, including almost $1,700 on donations to charity. Sounds pretty generous to me.

Elon Musk now wants a "noble" debate with Zuckerberg. It looks like Elon Musk is trying really hard to get out of his cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg. And now Musk is floating the idea of having a "noble" debate with Zuckerberg instead of throwing hands. TED curator Chris Anderson proposed having a "cage match DEBATE" between the two billionaires, and Musk seemed game for it. Maye Musk tweeted in June that her son and Zuckerberg should "fight with words only" instead of beating each other up.

Google cofounder Larry Page took back control of his flying-car company Kittyhawk last year. One employee told Anderson it would take three weeks to get ahold of one particular component they needed. "When I told [Larry] three weeks, he was not sympathetic and immediately told me I was wrong," Anderson said. I don't know that you're wrong, but Larry Page tells me you're wrong. "Please ignore Doug's email," Thrun responded in a follow-up email to the company.
A clip purporting to show Twitter CEO Elon Musk talking about social media personality Andrew Tate’s reinstatement on Twitter has been altered from 2022 footage of Musk discussing a different topic. The clip circulating online seemingly shows Musk saying: “People ask me why I unblocked Andrew Tate from Twitter. Reuters also did not find any credible media reporting that Musk discussed Andrew Tate at the 2022 TED Talk (archive.is/wip/8I6Iw). A close comparison between frames of the altered clip online and this segment of the TED Talk can be seen (04s on altered clip compared to 13.08s on TED Talk ibb.co/3MrH71t) and (14s on altered clip compared to 13.15s: ibb.co/B3n7VKZ). The original video shows Musk discussing his intention to open-source the Twitter algorithm, not reinstating Andrew Tate’s Twitter account.
Astronaut Tim Peake said Europe's space agency avoids hiring people who want a one-way trip to Mars. The ESA wants people who are thoughtful and aware of risk mitigation, Peake told the FT.Peake added there were hurdles to overcome to reach Mars safely. During an interview with the Financial Times, published on Monday, Peake said those types of people were not who the space agency was looking for when hiring candidates. Peake told the FT that before getting there, "we have to get over the hurdles of getting to Mars safely." "I absolutely do not see us having a problem with getting to Mars and creating safe habitats on Mars," Peake told the FT.
Elon Musk has once again made a prediction that man will go to Mars within 10 years. This was after his aerospace firm SpaceX successfully tested the most powerful rocket ever built. The billionaire has made rather optimistic predictions about sending man to Mars before. Musk has teased when humans will reach Mars for years predicting a 2029 landing most recently. This was after his 2016 estimation that humans will reach Mars by 2025.
A digitally manipulated clip has been shared online, creating the appearance that Twitter CEO Elon Musk claimed former U.S. President Donald Trump won the 2020 presidential election. The video is altered, however, and the first manipulated clip was derived from a 2017 TED talk featuring Musk in conversation with TED's Chris Anderson (bit.ly/3WPfkAd). A full transcript of the 2017 conversation does not reveal any such remark made by Musk (here). Reuters previously addressed another altered clip of Musk that made it appear that he had announced a bid to buy rival social media company, Meta (here). The visuals and audio were manipulated from a 2017 TED talk and a 2017 podcast with Joe Rogan to make it appear that Musk claimed Trump won the 2020 presidential election.
An altered clip is circulating online, making it appear as if Twitter CEO Elon Musk said that he intends to buy the social media company Meta in a recent interview. The clip augments video and audio to make it appear as if Musk expressed his intentions to buy the rival social media platform (here). A Google advanced search did not reveal any news reports suggesting that Musk expressed his intention to buy Meta during the TED discussion (archive.vn/wip/Tnj3k). There are other indications that the clip circulating online is altered, such as the audio lag between the apparent movement of Musk’s facial features. The video and audio were manipulated to make it appear as if Musk said that he intended to purchase Meta.
